MikuMikuDance (MMD) models
MikuMikuDance allows creators to make a virtual space for models to move or animate through. Several plugins are available to enhance the creation. Most models are created with Blender or Metaseq but several file formats are supported allowing for a large range of collaboration.
The models and other effects are user generated making the quality inconsistent between creators. While the program is released freeware and all default models are free for non-commercial use the user generated models have other copyrights. Some video companies release official models for fan created content like music videos.
The software is no longer under active development but is still popular. Blender has an entire tool pack that can be installed to support MMD.
